Choosing the Right Cottage
All six Gingerbread Cottages share the same basic idea — a bedroom, separate sitting room, kitchenette and porch — but they come in four sizes.
Some are made for two; others have daybeds and more room for a child, a family or a few friends. The important difference is how much space you want and how many people need to sleep comfortably.

Life in a Gingerbread Cottage
A Gingerbread Cottage gives you a little more room to settle in — a bedroom, separate sitting room, kitchenette and porch. Somewhere to make a snack, put the kettle on, read for a while, or simply stay home for part of the day.
The cottages follow the decorative timber tradition of old Nevis chattel houses, but no two are identical. Each has its own character, furnishings and relationship with the gardens. Each also has its own story, which we are happy to share with you while you are with us.
Hermitage is designed around fresh air and the natural hillside breeze, with screened windows, ceiling fans and floor fans throughout.

How Cottage Booking Works
The six Gingerbread Cottages come in four sizes, with sleeping arrangements for two to five guests. When you book, choose the cottage size that suits your party and we will allocate the individual cottage.
If there is something particular that matters to your stay — access, sleeping arrangements, or another practical detail — let us know and we will do our best to help.

A little Hermitage hospitality
We think breakfast is an important part of hospitality, and therefore include it with your stay. Afternoon refreshment is an important tradition too, so around 5pm we like to offer our guests tea, coffee or a little rum punch in the Great House — just about the time the monkeys tend to pass through the garden.

Beyond that, you have daily housekeeping, use of the pool with towels provided, complimentary Wi-Fi, drinking water, coffee and tea in the cottage, plus the restaurant, bar and tennis court. The Hermitage team is close at hand if you need a taxi, car rental, help planning a day out, or another practical detail taken care of.

Which cottage size should I choose?

Do the cottages have air conditioning?
No. Hermitage is designed around fresh air and the natural hillside breeze, with screened windows, ceiling fans and floor fans throughout.
Do the cottages have kitchens?
Each cottage has a simple kitchenette with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave and sink — somewhere to make a snack, prepare a drink or put together something simple. The restaurant is there for the serious meals.
Is breakfast included?
Yes. Breakfast is included with every stay and served on the Great House dining verandah.
Are the cottages suitable for children?
Yes. The larger cottage sizes have daybeds and can sleep families of three to five. Cots or cribs are also available on request at no charge. If you are unsure which size will work best for your family, ask us.
Is there a pool?
Yes. Cottage guests have use of the guest pool in the gardens, with pool towels provided. Yellow Manor House and Rose Villa have private pools of their own.
Can I request a specific cottage?
Bookings are made by cottage size, and we allocate the individual cottage. Each has its own name, character and story, and we are happy to note a preference, but we cannot promise a particular cottage.

Can I add an extra bed?
There are no rollaway beds. The larger cottages use daybeds for additional sleeping, within the stated maximum occupancy. A cot or crib can be added on request at no charge.
