Dining at Hermitage Nevis

Breakfast at Hermitage Nevis

Morning begins on the dining verandah, with locally woven placemats, linen napkins and whatever flowers have been cut from the garden that day.

Breakfast at Hermitage mixes familiar favourites with the food of the island. Eggs come from a farm up the road, fruit is local, pork sausage is made for us on Nevis, and the kitchen makes its own yoghurt, muesli, marmalade, breads, muffins and johnny cakes. There is coffee, of course, but also bush tea made from lemongrass, soursop leaves or fresh ginger.

Saltfish and johnny cakes, black beans and plantains, and the Vegan Start all have their regular following. Some people come for the coconut toast.

A Few Hermitage Favourites

Saltfish & Johnny Cakes

A proper Nevisian start — saltfish, johnny cakes, eggs and plantains.

The Vegan Start

Black beans, plantains and the kind of breakfast that happens to be vegan rather than trying too hard to be.

Coconut Toast

Crisp, coconut-crusted French toast. Some people come for the coconut toast.
