Thinking of You
Places beyond the tropics have four seasons, but here, as you get closer to the equator, the days very similar to each other. We only have two seasons here, when it rains and when it doesn’t. That doesn’t mean we don’t have Christmas in the Caribbean. And, this year, it is going to be Christmas on the beach. We will pack up the Landrover and fill a hamper with roasted meats, salads, fruits, nuts and sweet breads. We will build a little fire and roast lobsters on the water’s edge. With sandy toes and sun-kissed skin, we will make angels in the sand and decorate them with shells.
Smiling, we will think of you, and all who joined us at Hermitage this year; an interesting mix of holidaymakers, honeymooners, artist, writers, doctors, lawyers and Maori chiefs. Interestingly, a celebrity magazine shoot shared the property with a crew of geothermal miners. We can’t say which group was the more tantalizing and filled us with anxious delight at the possibility of unearthing a deeply hidden treasure. In the next few months, Nevis may access and adapt a new source of energy, tapping into the heat beneath the ground. Also in 2018, you might discover Hermitage between the glossy pages of a major publication, our flora and fauna vying with nearly nude models posing in the soft golden sunlight.
We look forward to the New Year, when Nevis will, once again, be “discovered” by the rest of the world. Until then, we’ll enjoy our own endless season of sunshine, and the quiet serenity and peace that will persist, at Christmas, and throughout the year.
