A Home in the Caribbean
Staying here is like being in your own country home, a home with warm staff, open gardens, history and tranquility.
The Hermitage is a small plantation inn, built around the oldest wooden house in the Caribbean ca. 1670.
The historic buildings and antique furniture tell the story of years of Caribbean Living. The house has survived because of its unique construction from the very rare tropical hardwood, lignum vitae, and because for over 350 years it has always been treated as a home, lived in and loved. Fruit trees, palm trees, ginger plants and old stone walls surround us.
This is one of the best places on the island for cool mountain breezes, trade winds and birdsongs.
We are 800 feet above sea-level at the foot of the rain-forest covered mountain.
It is a 10 minute drive down to the sea, and 10 minutes backup the hill to the cool mountain air.
Bar and Restaurant
The gracious, colonial dining porch wraps around the historic Great House offering public and private dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar is where local characters and island visitors mingle while enjoying the best rum punch Nevis has to offer. It’s here that tall tales about mountain climbs and the high seas are exchanged.
Weddings and Gatherings
We arrange intimate weddings, from simple elopements to family affairs.
We set the stage in our gardens, or in the historic Great House, lending a West Indian flare to that special day. We will take care of all the local arrangements, making the process as simple as it can be for you. Learn more about weddings on Nevis…
